LAPD officer sentenced in hotel theft case

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif.

Jeffrey Quinton, 47, struck a deal with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to two felony counts, including grand theft.

Quinton worked a second job as a security guard at the Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach. Prosecutors said he stole cash and other items from the hotel safe and storage lockers.

Quinton was sentenced to 120 days in jail, three years of probation and restitution. He has been on paid leave with the LAPD.

Quinton will have a chance to petition to have the felonies reduced to misdemeanors if he successfully completes the terms of probation, according to a defense attorney.
