OTRC: Cuba Gooding Jr. arrest warrant issued after alleged New Orleans bar confrontation

New Orleans police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Cuba Gooding Jr. on suspicion of municipal battery, stemming from an alleged confrontation with a female bartender.

The 44-year-old "Jerry Maguire" actor had no immediate comment about the matter. According to a police statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com, the incident in question occurred on Tuesday, July 31, at around 3 a.m. in a bar on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. People magazine said the venue was the Old Absinthe House.

A female bartender told officers that Gooding Jr. had visited the venue with a group of people and that at some point, other customers started asking the actor to take photos with them. She said that he became aggravated about it and that she then tried to get him to calm down, after which he allegedly pushed her away with an open hand.

The police statement says that one of her co-workers then called 911 and the bartender told the actor that the police were coming and that he needed to leave, after which he allegedly pushed her away again and exited the bar. Authorities then issued the arrest warrant for municipal battery, a misdemeanor.

Gooding Jr. is in New Orleans filming Lee Daniel's new movie "The Butler." Photographs of him on the set surfaced online, including on the website of the UK newspaper The Daily Mail.

The 2013 film is about a butler who worked for eight U.S. presidents and also stars Robin Williams, Liam Neeson, Oprah Winfrey, Alan Rickman, Minka Kelly, Forest Whitaker, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Terrence Howard, Lenny Kravitz, Melissa Leo, James Marsden and "True Blood" actor Nelsan Ellis, who was recently cast as Martin Luther King Jr, according to Deadline. Gooding Jr.'s role has not been disclosed.
