Apple says no YouTube application for next iPhone, iPad

LOS ANGELES

Apple's license to include the YouTube application expired. Neither company said why the license was not extended.

Users will be able to play YouTube videos in the Web browser, according to Apple. Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller said that Google is also working on a downloadable app.

Google Inc. owns YouTube. Google has its own smartphone operating system that competes with Apple's iPhone. Apple has sued companies that use it, saying it copies iPhone features.

In June, Apple said the next version of its operating system will replace Google Maps with an Apple app.

Google says it's working with Apple to ensure a quality YouTube experience.
