Lucy Hale is candid in a new interview with Cosmopolitan magazine where she reveals past struggles with her body image and how she would stop eating for days.
The 23-year-old actress, best known for playing Aria Montgomery on "Pretty Little Liars," appears on the cover of the magazine's September issue seen above.
"I've never really talked about this, but I would go days without eating," Hale told the magazine, according to USA Today. "Or maybe I'd have some fruit and then go to the gym for three hours."
"I knew I had a problem," she added. "It was a gradual process but I changed myself."
In June, Hale singed a record deal with Hollywood Records. The actress is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, and once competed on the reality show "American Juniors" in 2003 when she was 14. She finished in the top 5.
Hale also recently appeared in the film "A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song" where her character, Katie, provided the singing voice for her stepsister who scores a record contract because she took credit for Katie's demo recording.
The actress has had roles on "The O.C.," "How I Met Your Mother" and "Privileged" and has appeared in films like "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" and "Scream 4."
Hale also opened up about her current boyfriend, 27-year-old actor Chris Zylka.
"I was like, 'Holy crap! You're gorgeous,'" Hale said. "It was like no one else was there. We couldn't stop talking."
Hale's issue of Cosmopolitan becomes available on August 14.
