California Fish and Game Commission removes president who killed mountain lion

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

Daniel Richards was criticized by animal welfare groups for a photo from "Western Outdoor News" that showed a mountain lion he killed on a hunt in Idaho. Hunting mountain lions is banned in California, but it is allowed in Idaho.

In voting unanimously to remove Richards, the Fish and Game Commission would not confirm that it did so because of the mountain lion incident.

The commission said there had been concerns about Richards serving as president prior to that.
