One day Yash Gupta broke his glasses and found it very difficult to keep up in class. But he realized other kids had it much worse than he did, having no glasses at all. So he started the organization Sight Learning.
"There's 300 million people who can't afford glasses but need them every day," said Gupta. "And a large majority of these people are students. And I didn't think it was fair that they can't receive an education because of this."
In addition to using his website and helping by mailing in donations, Yash is also working with offices like OC Eye Associates, to collect the eyeglasses needed to give to those who have none.
"When patients come and get a new pair of glasses, they can drop off their old pair of glasses and that can be used to help someone else," said Yash.
The 16-year-old junior at Northwood High School has impressed so many with his drive and commitment.
"It's amazing for a kid of his age to really have a vision where he wants to do something that important and really change people's lives," said ophthalmologist Dr. Daniel Kline.
Yash feels like making the deliveries in person gives him all the motivation he needs to keep going.
"For many of these students, for many of these children, it's the first time in their lives they've received glasses and just the pure joy and emotion they're feeling is really great and inspiring," said Yash.
Yash Gupta is a Cool Kid who clearly saw a problem and found a way to help.
