Taylor Swift finally released details about her upcoming album, which she has been working on for the past two years, including a new single entitled, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."
The 22-year-old singer announced that her next album is named "Red" and is slated for release on October 22, 2012. Her most recent and third studio album, "Speak Now," has sold at least 4 million copies in the United States.
Swift made the announcement during a live video chat with fans on August 13 in Nashville, Tennessee.
"When I was coming up with the name for this album it seemed crazy because it was really simple," Swift said during the live chat. "I wrote a song called 'Red' and thinking about what that song means to me and all the different emotions on this album they're all pretty much about the tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships I've experienced in the last two years and all those emotions fanning from intense love, intense frustration, intense jealousy, confusion, all of that in my mind, all those emotions are red. There's nothing in between, there's nothing beige about those feelings and so I called my record that."
The singer said that there would be 16 tracks on the album, not including bonus tracks. She also debuted her next single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," which she joked is "a really romantic song" about her "lovely ex-boyfriend." She did not reveal which ex-boyfriend inspired the song.
"There are things that I went through personally and then there are stories I witnessed going on around me," Swift said of her inspiration for the album. "When I'm writing an album, my world becomes a big storyboard and has the potential to become a character and all my family and friends around me know that. The last two years have been really inspirational and that's why there are so many songs on the album."
Swift and her current rumored boyfriend, 18-year-old Conor Kennedy, have been linked together since at least late July. The two have not confirmed a relationship but were recently pictured together and in one photo, featured in People magazine, Kennedy could been seen with his hand clasped around Swift's waist.
Swift, who grew up in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania and Nashville, Tennessee, was recently named at the top of Forbes' list of Highest Paid Stars Under 30. The singer earned $57 million between May 2011 and May 2012 to help her land at the top spot.
