Refund offered for children's vitamins buyers

LOS ANGELES

The marketer of Disney and Marvel Hero-themed vitamins for children is refunding the money following an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission.

The FTC charged the marketer, NBTY, with making false and unproven claims that its multivitamins promoted healthy brain and eye development in children. The FTC said the products' packaging and print advertisements claimed the amount of DHA as significant.

NBTY has admitted its vitamins contained only a tiny fraction (.1 mg) of DHA it touted on the packaging. In addition, the FTC alleged that NBTY's claims about the brain and eye health benefits were not supported by scientific evidence.

You can get more information about this recall and apply for a refund on www.ftc.gov.

The packaging featured characters like Disney princesses, Winnie the Pooh, Nemo and Spider-Man.

Disney is the parent company of ABC7.
