Man steals $75K Maserati from downtown LA dealership

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

The Maserati hasn't been seen in about a month. The dealership believes it was either shipped overseas or chopped up for parts.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, on the 2000 block of South Figueroa Street. It was captured on surveillance camera.

Sheriff's deputies said the suspect asked the salesperson at Motor Village LA for the key to listen to the engine of a blue 2008 Maserati Gran Turismo. The salesperson complied, and the suspect started the engine. While the salesperson was holding on to the opened driver's door, the suspect drove off.

"Thank goodness he didn't hit a client adviser. There's a walkway in front. Thank goodness there were no customers there," said general manager Michael Bell.

The thief never asked for a test drive, which would require a driver's license.

The suspect is a white man with a shaved head, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and approximately 150 pounds. Anyone with information was asked to contact the the Taskforce for Regional Autotheft Prevention at (800) 299-TRAP.
