Henry Cavill, star of the upcoming Superman film reboot "Man of Steel," has reportedly ended his engagement to Ellen Whitaker.
The 29-year-old actor and Whitaker, a 26-year-old show jumping rider and fellow British native, mutually decided to end their engagement, a source told Us Weekly magazine.
"There was no fallout. They just both agreed it wasn't working," the source told Us Weekly. "They broke up three months ago."
Cavill's publicist had no immediate comment on the reports.
The pair announced their engagement on May 5, 2011. They met at the 2009 Olympia International Horse Show and had been dating for about two years.
"I couldn't believe it when he asked me to marry him," Whitaker said in a statement on her website at the time, adding that she accepted his proposal straight away. "I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy."
Cavill rose to fame playing Charles Brandon, King Henry VIII's brother-in-law, on the R-rated Showtime series "The Tudors," starting in 2007. He has also appeared in films such as "Stardust" in 2007 and "The Count of Monte Cristo" in 2002.
