OTRC: Mayim Bialik talks car accident injury: 'I let some things stop me but not this' - See video

Mayim Bialik talks to OTRC.com at a cocktail reception party for the upcoming 64th Primetime Emmy Awards on August 20, 2012.

Mayim Bialik is not letting her recent injuries from a car accident get to her.

The 36-year-old actress talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com about her road to recovery and her first Emmy nomination for her role on "The Big Bang Theory."

"I let some things stop me but not this," Bialik told OnTheRedCarpet.com on Monday, August 20, at a cocktail party for the upcoming Emmy Awards.

The actress was involved in a car accident on Hollywood Blvd and La Brea in Hollywood, California on August 15. A vehicle containing three Chilean tourists struck her car. Bialik sustained a severe injury to her thumb and there were reports that she almost lost the finger.

Bialik later Tweeted to fans, via her husband typing, that she was in pain but was able to keep all her fingers. She returned to work on the set of "The Big Bang Theory" the following day.

"It will be a long road to recovery but all my fingers work and they move," she said on Monday. "I can make dresses look okay with it and by the Emmys, we'll have one of these splits in black and we'll be ready to go."

In 2007, Bialik earned a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA. She said her knowledge of the human body and also giving birth to her two children through natural labor helped her cope with the pain from the accident.

"My PhD in neuroscience is good for a lot of things and it was very helpful, it was helpful in this process," she said. "So was being a person who went through two natural labors -- I knew exactly what to do with pain -- where to push it and where to put it and I had to do a lot of that for many hours."

The actress has been married to her husband Michael Stone since 2003. The pair has two sons - Miles Roosevelt Bialik Stone, born October 10, 2005, and Frederick Heschel Bialik Stone, born August 15, 2008.

Bialik has a recurring role on "The Big Bang Theory," portraying Amy Farrah Fowler. She recently earned her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

"It's overwhelming. To be nominated with such amazing women is so astonishing for me and exciting and I feel this is the end of one phase of Emmy season and the beginning of the next," Bialik said. "It's exciting to be a part of it in so many ways."

Although she has been acting since she was a child with appearance on "The Facts of Life," "MacGyver" and in the film "Beaches," she admits she still gets nervous on set.

"I get nervous before every scene. Every single episode of 'Blossom,' I was nervous before introductions and it's still like that, every scene," she said. "For me, that's just how it works so none of this comes naturally to me and I'm grateful that people wants to watch me say someone else's words."

As for what she'll do if she wins an Emmy, Bialik jokes, "I may not make it up the stairs."
