Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger are engaged after quietly dating for six months.
Few people even knew that the Canadian rockers were dating, but People Magazine reports that Lavigne, 27, and Kroeger, 37, got together in February while working on a song for Lavigne's upcoming album. The magazine said Kroeger proposed with a 14-carat diamond ring on August 8.
Lavigne confirmed the news on Tuesday, August 21, by retweeting a Twitter message posted on Nickelback's account that said, "Congratulations Avril and Chad!"
This will be Kroeger's first marriage. Lavigne was previously involved with Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley. The pair married in July 2006 in California, and have no children together. Lavigne filed for divorce in October 2009, citing irreconcilable differences.
Lavigne most recently had a high-profile relationship with "The Hills" star Brody Jenner for almost two years, from early 2010 to around January of this year. Unlike her low-key relationship with Kroeger, Lavigne and Jenner were often spotted being cozy in public and expressed their feelings for each other via Twitter.
Lavigne is best known for hits such as "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi," but more recently debuted her fashion line, Abbey Dawn.
Nickelback, known for songs like "How You Remind Me" and "Someday," also includes guitarist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger and drummer Daniel Adair. The group's most recent music video, "Trying Not To Love You," featured Jason Alexander, aka George from "Seinfeld." See the video below.
