Paltrow, who lost her father to oral cancer in 2002, is also the executive producer of the event, along with longtime MTV Movie Awards producer Joel Gallen. The telethon will also feature performances by Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Coldplay and Tim McGraw.

The event, which will air commercial-three on the four major networks and over a dozen cable channels on September 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Pledges from the event will go towards groundbreaking research into new cancer treatments and brings together scientists from different disciplines to collaborate. To date, SU2C has received over $180 million in pledges and made grants to seven scientific "dream teams" and 26 scientists.
