Katie Couric has booked some high-profile guest for the start of her new talk show "Katie" on September 10.
Jessica Simpson will appear for a sit down interview with Couric on the premiere to talk about motherhood and her road to weight loss. Sheryl Crow will also appear on the debut episode to talk about her recently-diagnosed brain tumor.
Couric began her television news career as a news assistant at ABC News in Washington, D.C. in 1979, going on to work for CNN and ABC. She eventually landed the job of co-host of the network's national daytime series the "Today" show in 1991. She left the program in 2006 and was made the new anchor of CBS' "Evening News," becoming the first woman to anchor a network television evening newscast by herself. She left her post on May 19.
Disney and the ABC Television Group announced on June 6 that Couric would appear on her own daytime talk show titled "Katie" weekdays at 3 p.m. starting in September.
Other guests lined-up for the show include Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Lopez, Susan Sarandon, Sofia Vergara, Wendy Williams, Chelsea Handler, Demi Lovato, Heidi Klum and "Fifty Shades of Grey" author E L James.
Couric will also have interviews with newsmakers like Aimee Copland, a 24-year-old student who survived a rare flesh-eating bacteria and Amanda Knox's former boyfriend.
"I think if you put on a quality show and you discuss things that people want to talk about and you make it compelling and accessible and relatable, I think, I hope if you build it, they will come, like they say in 'Fields of Dreams,'" Couric, 55, told OnTheRedCarpet.com special correspondent George Pennacchio of KABC Television in an exclusive video interview in June.
"I think, hopefully, there will be an appetite for smart conversation, for fun discussions, for all sorts of different things and that what I hope to bring to the table," Couric added.
"Katie" premieres on September 10 on at 3 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of OnTheRedCarpet.com and ABC.
