Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill have welcomed a baby boy, who was born via a gestational carrier, three days before their fifth wedding anniversary and following the E! host's breast cancer battle.
This the first child for the two, who announced the pregnancy on NBC's "Today" in April. Rancic, 37, had opened up about her fertility problems and battle with breast cancer publicly, including on the Style network reality show "Giuliana & Bill," which documented her road to recovery and the couple's journey to parenthood. The Style and E! cable channels are owned by NBC Universal.
"The 'Duke' has landed!" Bill, 41, said in a message posted on his Twitter page at 3:22 a.m. on Thursday, August 30. "Edward Duke Rancic was welcomed into the world last night at 7lbs 4oz. G & I feel blessed beyond words...We did it!"
Earlier this month, Rancic had begun her maternity leave from E! and she and Bill traveled to Colorado, where the gestational carrier lives. She gave birth to their child in Denver at 10:12 p.m. on Wednesday night according to E! News.
"Bill and I are blessed beyond words to welcome Edward into our lives," the outlet quoted Rancic as saying. "Thank you so much to everyone who supported us along the way. We are so in love with the little guy already!"
On "Giuliana & Bill," the two were seen breaking down in tears while talking on the phone with the woman carrying their child. E! News said the couple was in the delivery room when their child was born, adding that Bill cut Edward's umbilical cord and Rancic was the first to hold their son.
Bill has said earlier this year that he and Rancic intend to maintain a relationship with their gestational carrier after their baby is born, but added that the decision would be up to the woman.
Rancic married Bill, the first winner of Donald Trump's reality show "The Apprentice," on Sept. 1, 2007 in Naples, Italy. They tried to have children for years. Rancic had a miscarriage in 2010 and also attempted two vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. She was diagnosed with breast cancer during a doctor's appointment to discuss a third. She underwent a double mastectomy in December 2011.
"THANK YOU for ur love & prayers!" she Tweeted on Thursday.
