"Jersey Shore," will only get one more season of fist-pumping, gym, tan and laundry, as the popular reality series will end after its upcoming sixth season, MTV announced on August 30.
The reality series, which is the network's highest-rated series of all time topping out at nearly 9 million viewers, will debut its final season on October 4.
MTV also announced plans to air a special retrospective series entitled, "Gym, Tan, Look Back," before the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6 at 6 p.m. ET. The special will also give fans a first look at footage from the final season and cast interviews.
"Jersey Shore," which depicts the lives of party-loving, self-proclaimed "Guidos and Guidettes," is one of the top-rated cable programs.
The stars of the reality series have launched the careers of break-out stars Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Paul "Pauly D" Delvecchio and Jenni "JWoww" Farley, who reportedly make as much as $150,000 per episode.
"Yes, sadly it's true. This upcoming season of Jersey Shore will be our last. But it was fricken INSANE. I will always love my roomies!" Snooki Tweeted on August 30.
MTV announced on March 19 that it had picked up the series for a sixth season and that all the cast members would return. The new season filmed in the show's original location of Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, who recently gave birth to a son, stars in a spin-off show with cast member Jenni "JWoww" Farley, which was recently renewed for a second season. Cast member Paul "Pauly D" Delvecchio also headlines a show called "The Pauly D Project," which debuted on MTV on March 29.
"Jersey Shore" also inspired two international versions of the reality series - the top rated MTV UK series "Geordie Shore" in the United Kingdom and "Gandia Shore" in Spain, where it is currently in production of its first season.
The sixth and final season of "Jersey Shore" premieres on October 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. "Gym, Tan, Look Back" will air on September 6 at 6 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
