This week at the movies, two friends are ringing up big money with a phone sex line, some Oogieloves are having a balloon party (don't ask), but first, the prohibition era drama about bootlegging brothers in "Lawless."
The true story is based on the Bondurant brothers, who are the most successful bootleggers in Virginia. But with great success comes great peril, and as the law tries to muscle in on the action, all hell breaks loose. Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Jessica Chastain star.
The Reel Deal: Look, I loves me some gangster movies, and although I'm sure this true story plays it pretty loose with the facts, I like the look, I like the action, I like the actors, I even liked Shia LaBeef. I'm in.
Two Frenemies team up to find a racy new calling in "For a Good Time, Call..."
Desperate to pay for a posh New York City apartment, two roommates start a phone sex line to make ends meet. As expected, a surge in calls means extra cash but the fragile friendship is put to the test. The R-rated comedy stars Lauren Miller, Ari Graynor and Justin Long.
The Reel Deal: It's very sitcomy, but the two girls are super likable and Justin Long kinda steals the movie. So look, it's not great, but it's the end of summer and just be glad you're not paying two bucks a minute. I'm in.
Also in theaters this weekend, a young girl's purchase at a yard sale leaves her frightfully transformed in "The Possession."And there's a movie that made me yearn for the sophistication of the Teletubbies, "The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure." Well, at least it's not in 3D.
