Billie Joe Armstrong, the 40-year-old lead singer of the rock band Green Day, was hospitalized over the weekend in Italy.

Armstrong's undisclosed illness forced the band to cancel a concert in Bologna, Italy. His band mates, drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt, appeared in a video on the band's website on September 2 apologizing to fans.

"Obviously We apologize profusely, you know, this is really unfortunate, but Billie got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness," Dirnt said in the video which can be seen below. "The doctors don't think it's a good idea for him to play today."

"This sucks, we really, really looking forward to playing bologna as the highlight of our tour," he added.

Cool said, "We're beyond devastated and sad. Billie is extremely upset about it, and we'll see you soon."

On September 3, Armstrong was seen out of the hospital and in Los Angeles when stopped by a TMZ cameraman at the airport. When asked about his health, Armstrong mouthed that his voice was gone.

On July 26, Armstrong was named as a mentor for Christina Aguilera's team on season 3 of "The Voice," which is set to premiere later this month.

The band also released a new music video for the single "Kill the DJ," which can be seen below. Warning: Video contains expletives.
