OTRC: Kirsten Dunst says 'Bachelorette' got her brother's approval

Kirsten Dunst talks to OTRC.com at the 'Bachelorette' premiere in Los Angeles on Aug. 23, 2012.

Kirsten Dunst's latest film gets the stamp of approval from one member of her family: Her younger brother.

The actress told OTRC.com correspondent George Pennacchio of her brother's approval and why she signed on to the raunchy female driven comedy at the premiere for the film in Los Angeles.

"My brothers and his friends love it. I think that guys will love this movie a lot," Dunst, a 30-year-old former child star, said. "I can tell my brother has good radar for that."

The film is about a group of three mean girl-type girlfriends (played by Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher) who are serving as bridesmaids for the wedding of a girl they made fun of in high school (played by Rebel Wilson). As the girls gear up for a big night out, a mishap with the wedding dress sends the night spiraling out of control.

"It's the kind of movie that your girlfriends don't want to admit that they, like they are pieces of these girls' lives, but I think to certain women it speaks close to them and they love it and laugh," the actress said. "And certain people it's too much for them but it's a raunchy girls comedy. You don't see many of those?like this raunchy."

Prior to signing up for the film, Dunst starred in the dark drama "Melancholia" by director Lars von Trier. Dunst won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for that role and the actress said after shooting that film, she needed a lighter role.

"I do things for myself and that's really it. After 'Melancholia,' I really wanted to do a comedy and this has been a passionate movie for me," Dunst said. "It's a little indie and it's doing well and we're all very proud of ourselves."

The film was produced by FunnyorDie.com founders Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. The film has already found some success before its opening in theaters. The film was released on the Video on Demand platform and on iTunes, becoming the first movie to hit no. 1 on that chart before its theatrical release.

"Bachelorette" hit theaters on September 7. Check out the trailer below.
