State expands warning on Red Vines black licorice products

LOS ANGELES

The Mixed Bites and Family Mix are now also being recalled after tests showed the black licorice in the package had high levels of lead.

Health officials are warning people not to eat red vines products that contain black licorice with a best before date of February 4, 2013.

Last month the health department recalled 16-ounce bags of Red Vines black licorice twists with the same "best before" date.

The candies are manufactured by union city-based American licorice company. The cause of the lead contamination is being investigated. Officials say eating the products could lead to consuming twice the recommended daily lead limit for young children.

You can find additional information on the black licorice recall on the American Licorice Company's website.
