30-foot tree topples over in West LA neighborhood, damages cars

WEST LOS ANGELES

The tree fell in the late afternoon on the 2100 block of South Linnington Avenue in Rancho Park. Residents say it barely missed a couple of homes but badly damaged a truck and scratched up an SUV parked beneath the tree.

No one was injured. One person in the neighborhood said she was glad the situation didn't turn out worse.

"Unfortunately our friend's car over there did get quite a bit of damage, but I was just thinking, if my car and the structure of my car didn't stop the tree, it may have really hurt someone, so we're really lucky nobody was hurt in all of this," said Felicia Samatamihich.

Residents say the tree had been there for decades and may have been infected with a fungus. City crews couldn't predict how long it would take to remove it.
