Skydiver injured while attempting record in Perris

PERRIS, Calif.

When emergency crews arrived at the Perris Valley Airport on Sunday afternoon, the woman from Russia was unconscious beneath her emergency parachute, according to the Press-Enterprise.

The woman, whose name was not released, was reportedly part of a team of skydivers trying to set several records over the weekend.

The newspaper reports that the skydivers wore bat-like "wing suits" that enabled them to fly forward in tight formation, but without touching, at roughly 65 mph while falling at about the same speed.

At least 14 people have been killed at the Perris Valley facility since 2000. The latest incident happened last December when a Canadian skydiver was killed after a hard landing.
