Eric Stonestreet, who recently won his second Emmy, is laughing off recent rumors that say he and actress Charlize Theron are dating.
The UK newspaper The Daily Mail had published a story a day before Sunday's 2012 Emmy Awards, claiming that Theron, 37, had fallen for Stonestreet, 41, and that she was "happy" with her new man.
"I wish people would stop spreading rumors that Charlize Theron and I are dating," Stonestreet Tweeted on September 23. "It's starting to make Halle Berry jealous."
The actor attended the high-profile ceremony with a friend, Paul, who he Tweeted "dared me to audition for the first play I ever did at #kstate," referring to his alma mater, Kansas State University.
Stonestreet had originally studied to become a prison administrator and then auditioned for a production of the play "Prelude To A Kiss" at the college after Paul dared him to do it. According to the school's website, Stonestreet was then cast in the smallest role.
Theron, a South African actress who won an Oscar for her role in the 2003 film "Monster" and also starred in the 2009 movie "The Road," dated Irish actor Stuart Townsend for nearly a decade. They split up in January 2010. Theron adopted a son, Jackson, in March 2012.
Stonestreet dated Broadway star Katherine Tokarz for almost three years before calling it quits earlier in 2012, according to E! News. The actor's ex-girlfriend is now engaged to writer-producer Bret Calvert, only months after their split.
Stonestreet won his recent Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Comedy Actor for his role as gay father Cameron Tucker on the hit ABC show "Modern Family." He won the same prize in 2010 (and promptly displayed it jokingly in a yard near his dog).
