Here comes MORE Honey Boo Boo!
TLC said in a statement to OTRC.com on Wednesday, September 26, it has ordered additional episodes of the hit reality series, which focuses on unconventional beauty queen Alana Thompson, 7, and her small-town Georgia family, following increasing ratings. The cable network's announcement was made hours before what was earlier believed to be the season 1 finale.
"America redneckognized pint-sized Alana Thompson and her self-proclaimed crazy family with 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," the statement said, quoting a term that has become one of the show's many catchphrases. "In response, TLC has ordered additional episodes of the hit series, as well as three HOLLAday specials (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas)."
"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" has become a pop culture phenomenon," said Amy Winter, general manager of TLC. "What you see is what you get and we are excited to share even more of Alana and her family's unbridled hilarity, sincerity and love with our viewers."
The show, a spin-off of the cable network's series "Toddlers & Tiaras," has averaged 2.3 million viewers since it debuted on August 8.
Ratings among the coveted demographic of people between ages 18 and 49 have increased steadily since the premiere, from a 0.8 to a 1.0, with more than 2.15 million viewers in total. The most recent episode on September 19 ranked among the top five most-watched cable programs and was the most-watched among non-syndicated and reality shows.
"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo shows Thompson's close-knit family members farting, burping and scratching and taking part in odd activities - participating in "Redneck Games," playing a mouth odor contest, eating road kill and making spaghetti sauce with butter and ketchup.
The family members had recently been negotiating with the cable network for higher salaries, The Hollywood Reporter said last week. Reps for TLC and parent company Discovery Communications have declined to comment about the matter.
The 10th episode of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" was originally thought to be the show's last. With the additional shows TLC has ordered, it is now considered the end of the first half of season 1. The network has not disclosed how many more episodes it has ordered or when the final one among them will air. A rep told OTRC.com that the new shows are a "continuation of the current season" and that TLC is not referring to them as season 2.
Hijinks ensue on Wednesday's midseason finale of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" when Thompson and her family, including parents Mama June and Sugar Bear, try to pose for a family photo. The beauty queen is also gearing up for a big pageant, the latest of many. But her plans may be in jeopardy, as the episode also features the birth of her 17-year-old sister's child. In July, Anna "Chickadee" delivered baby Kaitlyn , who was born with two thumbs.
