Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to having an affair with his "Red Sonja" co-star Brigitte Nielsen, before she married Sylvester Stallone.

Schwarzenegger wrote of the "outrageous affair" in his new autobiography, "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story," which is slated for release on October 1. The actor and former California governor said that the affair occurred during filming of the 1985 film and noted that Nielsen didn't know he was dating and living with his now-estranged wife Maria Shriver at the time.

According to the Associated Press, Schwarzenegger wrote that he knew the fling with the model would be short-lived and claimed that it only cemented his desire to marry Shriver.

Nielsen previously spoke of the affiar in the aftermath of Schwarzenegger's infidelity scandal in 2011.

"We wanted to try everything and so we did. There were no restrictions, no promises, nothing, and it was a great time in my life," Nielsen told the Daily Mail in June 2011. "Maybe I wouldn't have got into it if he said 'I'm going to marry Maria' and this is dead serious, but he didn't, and our affair carried on."

Nielsen married Stallone on December 15, 1985 and the couple divorced in July 1987, she later admitted to having an affair with recently deceased "Beverly Hills Cop II" director Tony Scott.

The model and actress has been married five times and has four sons. Her most high-profile relationship was with rapper Flavor Flav. Their relationship was featured on the 2005 reality TV series, "Strange Love." Nielsen most recently appeared on a 2008 season of "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," where she dealt with alcoholism.

In Schwarzenegger's autobiography, he also detailed his affair with the couple's former housekeeper Mildred Baena, with whom he fathered a son named Joseph.

The 65-year-old actor said that the day after his term as California governor came to an end, Shriver set up a meeting with a therapist where she made it clear that she was aware of his infidelity.

"The minute we sat down, the therapist turned to me and said, 'Maria wanted to come here today and to ask about a child - whether you fathered a child with your housekeeper Mildred,'" he wrote in the book, according to ABC News. "I told the therapist, 'It's true.'"

Schwarzenegger said in his book that he immediately started groveling, admitting that he had screwed up and telling Shriver that she was the "Perfect wife." Shriver, 56, filed for divorce in July 2011 amid the cheating scandal and after 25 years of marriage.

Shriver and Schwarzenegger announced their separation in May 2011. It was later revealed that the actor had fathered a son with Baena while he was married to Shriver, who is the mother of daughters Christina, 21, and Katherine, 23, and sons Christopher, 14 and Patrick, 19.

Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, recently returned to acting. He reprised his role as Trench in "The Expendables 2," which opened in theaters in August 2012 and also stars Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Liam Hemsworth, Jet Li and Jason Statham.
