Ben Flajnik, the most recent star of "The Bachelor" and the show's winner Courtney Robertson announced on Friday that they have called-off their engagement.
"It's true," Flajnik told People magazine on October 5.
The pair, who met on season 16 of the ABC reality dating series, has not elaborated on the reason for their split. Flajnik and Robertson maintained a long-distance relationship and often posted photos of their activities on their Twitter accounts.
Robertson, a 29-year-old model, infamously invited Flajnik skinny-dipping on one of the first episodes of the season. She also butted heads with most of the other contestant. She also nicknamed her final competitors Lindzi Cox and Nicki Sterling "Horsey" and "Fatty," respectively.
During the season finale, Flajnik was shown proposing to Robertson, with a Princess-cut Neil Lane diamond ring. Robertson was seen as the villain, but apologized during the post-finale special, "After the Final Rose."
The couple previously spent some time apart between the proposal and the airing of "After the Final Rose." Flajnik cited his fiance's behavior during the season as the reason for his apprehension.
"It's been a rough ride," Flajnik told host Chris Harrison at the time. "The woman that I saw on TV isn't the Courtney that I know... Those are the moments and the instances that led to Courtney and I not talking for a time while the show aired. We were essentially broken up."
The 30-year-old winemaker from Sonoma, California previously appeared on "The Bachelorette," where he fell for the star Ashley Hebert. He proposed but she picked J.P Rosenbaum over him. They are still engaged.
Season 17 of "The Bachelor" will feature former "Bachelorette" finalist Sean Lowe and will debut in January 2013.
