LAX-area hotel evacuated due to pepper spray

LOS ANGELES

Rooms were evacuated just after midnight after several people began having trouble breathing.

Firefighters searched the hotel and determined that pepper spray had been released somewhere on the 10th floor. Guests say they ran for the exits after waking up coughing.

"At that point, we got dressed and we saw some other people running down the hallway with towels over their faces. So we just got out of there," described hotel evacuee Omar Bruce.

Blowers were used to clear the pepper spray out. Firefighters checked all the rooms but couldn't find the source. They say it may have gone off accidentally in someone's purse.
