Liam Neeson's "Taken 2" ruled Friday's box office with $18.6 million, beating out Halloween-themed flicks, "Frankenweenie" and "Hotel Transylvania."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the action movie sequel is expected to earn around $40 million over the course of the weekend, after opening in 3,661 theaters on October 5.

"Taken 2," sees Neeson reprising his role as retired CIA agent Bryan Mills, whose daughter has been kidnapped. The sequel also stars returning actresses Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen.

Neeson told OTRC.com that he was reluctant to do the sequel at all, joking, "I didn't see where it could possibly go. What? My daughter gets taken again? That's like really bad parenting."

Last week's box office champ, "Hotel Transylvania," continued to perform well, earning another $6.5 million on Friday.

This week's musical comedy release "Pitch Perfect" earned $5.1 million in 335 theaters after opening last week and opened in another 2,770 locations on Friday and earned $4.9 million.

"Pitch Perfect" follows two competing Barden University a capella groups who compete for the national championships. The comedy stars Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson.

"Looper" held strong in the box office, earning another $3.5 million on Friday. The action flick stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as a time-traveling assassin.

Tim Burton's animated flick "Frankenweenie" earned $3.3 million on Friday, landing in fifth place in the box office.

Frankenweenie, which director Tim Burton told OTRC.com is based on his childhood dog Pepe, follows a young man named Victor, voiced by Charlie Tahan, who is conducting a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life. During his attempts, Victor is faced with unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.

The black and white stop-motion animated film also features the voices of Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, Martin Landau, Atticus Shaffer and Martin Short.
