OTRC: Tori Spelling reveals pregnancy complications, nearly lost life

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott attend the Glaad event in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 10, 2011.

Tori Spelling has opened up about her difficult pregnancy and revealed that she and her new son Finn almost didn't make it.

The 39-year-old actress revealed to Us Weekly magazine that twenty weeks into her recent pregnancy, she was diagnosed with placenta previa.

According to the Mayo Clinic, placenta previa occurs when a baby's placenta partially or totally covers the cervix, after attaching to the lower area of the uterus. The condition can lead to massive internal bleeding and doctors told Spelling that if the condition worsened, they would have to terminate the pregnancy and remove her uterus, in order to save her life.

"It was surreal," Spelling told Us Weekly of the ordeal. "I just remember thinking, I can't leave three children behind."

Spelling was ordered four months in bed rest. The reality star suffered nine massive bleeds before welcoming Finn Davey McDermott on August 30.

"When they put him in my arms I was like, 'We made it.'" Spelling continued. "We have an insane bond. We've been through hell and back."

Three weeks after Finn's birth, Spelling underwent emergency surgery after her C-section scars burst open. She assured fans that she is "on the road to recovery."

Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott are also parents to 5-year-old son Liam, 4-year-old daughter Stella and 11-month-old daughter Hattie.

McDermott also has a 13-year-old son named Jack from a previous marriage. Spelling and McDermott wed in May 2006.

Spelling and McDermott starred in their own reality show, "Tori & Dean: sTORIbook Weddings," which aired on the Oxygen network in 2011. The actress is best known for her role as Donna Martin in the long-running 90s hit series "Beverly Hills: 90210." McDermott appeared in a number of films including "Open Range" and "Saving God."

The pair now star in the reality series "Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood" and Spelling hosts the reality competition series, "Craft Wars" and owns an interior design store.
