OTRC: Karina Smirnoff of 'Dancing With The Stars' talks fall, embarrassed for cursing

Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff talk to OTRC.com after the October 15, 2012 episode of 'Dancing With The Stars.'

Karina Smirnoff's rough week on "Dancing With The Stars" started last Tuesday on October 9, when Melissa Rycroft and her partner Tony Dovolani chose a Hip Hop style dance for Smirnoff and her celebrity partner, Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.

Smirnoff was shown in a pre-taped piece on the October 15 episode of the reality series struggling to choreograph the dance and cursing out of frustration.

Although things seemed to brighten up for Smirnoff and Ohno early on in their dance, about a third of the way through, the professional dancer slipped and fell hard on the dance floor. She worked quickly to recover and finish out the dance.

Once the music was over, however, Smirnoff began to tear up at her mistake.

"I am embarrassed about my choice of language," Smirnoff told OTRC.com in an interview after the show. "I am embarrassed about that in the package, so I want to apologize America. I'm sorry. There are other words I know I won't be using that one again."

Ohno said in response, "It shows you're human. We all make mistakes."

Smirnoff joked that her mother was going to have something to say about her choice of words.

"I am going to hear it tonight, I promise you," Smirnoff said. "She's going to say, 'Have I taught you nothing?' "

The pro-dancer, who has competed on the show since season 3 and won in season 13 with J.R. Martinez, explained her difficulties.

"The hardest thing is just to deliver what you've worked on the whole week," Smirnoff said. "Wednesday and Thursday were really difficult for us because this is a style that I've never learned. I came to the States right after the [new] jack swing movement."

"So we worked our butts off and we nailed it in dress rehearsal and it was so cool and I ... he deserves a better performance from me than I could've given him today," She added.

Ohno said he was happy with his performance, which earned him a score of 34.5 out of 40.

"She got us right back on timing, instinctively, "Ohno said of Smirnoff. "I had wardrobe malfunction, my pants ripped in the back, the mic fell out, all weird stuff that didn't happen an hour, two hours ago. "

"We talked about it earlier this season about trying to save the best chorography for the final weeks and this was not her forte but she learned it fast, she came up with it," he later added. "I think she did a very, very good job. Sometimes things happen but she showed what kind of person she is by keep going and keep entertaining the people."

The Olympian also teased his song for next week's "Guilty Pleasures" theme.

"The guilty pleasure is like the song that you sing when you're in the shower," Ohno said. "It's like the one that you're almost a little bit embarrassed that you love, but every time you listen to it, if it comes on in my car and there's nobody in the car -- just be lucky the windows aren't rolled down because I'm that guy, next to you, singing ... loud."

"I heard it, he actually has an amazing voice," Smirnoff said.
