Highs reached the mid 90s in the Los Angeles-Metro area, Orange County and the high desert; low 100s in the Inland Empire and Valleys; and mid 70s in the mountains. The fall-like weather was expected to return Friday as temperatures begin to drop into the weekend.
"It almost seems like this has been an extension of July," said Norman Schwartz of Calabasas. "It's been continued heat and we were looking forward to the cooler weather, and it hasn't come as of yet."
Some residents said they are just glad that it's not humid.
"At least it's a nice, dry heat, you know? If that's any better. But yeah, it's really hard to bear," said Santa Clarita resident Mary Ann Danehy.

Pasadena officials are especially concerned about power consumption because of a fire at a power plant on Tuesday. The fire didn't shut the plant down entirely, but it is raising some concerns about how much electricity will be available for people in the area.
Officials are asking residents to use their air conditioners sparingly, especially during peak hours.
