El Monte lifeguards who spoofed 'Gangnam Style' get jobs back

EL MONTE, Calif.

On Tuesday night, the City Council voted to re-hire them. The 14 lifeguards shot their video, "Lifeguard Style," at a city aquatic center, and city leaders called it an unauthorized use of city resources and property.

"We're just very happy and excited to finally go back. We're very overwhelmed and full of joy," said lifeguard Jacob Sornoso. "Going back to school, the money's going to come in handy now. We're just pleased and very happy with the decision."

"Lifeguard Style" went viral on the Internet, getting more than 2 million hits on YouTube. The lifeguards had many supporters, including Korean singer PSY, who created "Gangnam Style."
