The /*San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station*/ has accrued at least $165 million owed for repairs, inspections and replacement electricty.
In January, the facility shut down after a leak was found in one of the reactors. /*Southern California Edison*/, which runs the plant, has recently asked the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for permission to restart Reactor Unit 2. The move is drawing heated reaction from both sides.
CPUC has twice postponed considering an order requiring Southern California Edison, the company that runs the plant, to disclose the potential economic costs to ratepayers.
Edison has proposed to restart one reactor at reduced power. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has not given permission for that proposal to go forward. The Commission is reviewing the proposal.
