Rapper Flavor Flav was recently arrested and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery domestic violence following a confrontation with his fiance, during which he allegedly threatened her teenage son with a knife.
The incident took place at his house in Las Vegas, where he maintains a restaurant. Police received a call at about 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17 from the residence. The caller told officers "she had been involved in a physical altercation with her fiance," who was identified by Flavor Flav's real name - William Drayton, Jr., according to the Las Vegas Metropolital Police Department statement obtained by OTRC.com.
"It was also reported that after the physical altercation, Drayton had threatened his fiance's teenage son with a knife," the statement said. "After an investigation, Drayton was arrested and charged with battery domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.
Flavor Flav, 53, has not commented about the arrest. According to his fiance is Liz Trujillo.
The rapper was later released after posting a $23,000 bond - $20,000 for the weapons charge, which carries a maximum punishment of six months in prison, and $3,000 for the violence charge, which could also land him behind bars for six months, but in country jail. He is due in court on Thursday, records show.
Flavor Flav, a popular rapper and reality TV star who is known for his Viking helmet, gold teeth and clock that he wears around his neck, has a criminal record.
Last year, he was arrested for having outstanding traffic warrants. He once spent month in jail for assaulting then-girlfriend Karen Ross in 1991 and also served 90 days in prison for shooting at a neighbor in New York in 1993. After dropping out of high school in the 11th grade, he also had jail stints for robbery and burglary, according to EW.com.
Flavor Flav has seven children of his own, including three with Ross, as well as several grandchildren. He Tweeted a photo of one of his kids - 5-year-old son Karma, on October 5, adding: "It's 1:17 in the mornin My son karma won't go ta sleep,! He's 5 and gotta go to school tomorrow! I wanna nok-em-out but he's to cute!! Lucky (sic)"
Flavor Flav rose to fame with the group Public Enemy and also starred in the VH1 dating show "Flavor of Love." Last year, the rapper, a culinary school alum and son of parents who owned a diner, opened a chicken eatery called Flav's Fried Chicken, or FFC, in Iowa. It shut down within months.
