Santa Barbara-area fire: Crews make progress

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.

As of Thursday morning, the fire had charred 44 acres and was 75 percent contained.

The so-called Lookout Fire broke out near Highway 154 at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. At one point, 100 structures were threatened and 40 homes were evacuated. The evacuations have since been lifted.

One firefighter suffered a minor leg injury. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The Painted Cave area was the scene of another fire in 1990 that killed one person and burned about 550 homes over 7 1/2 square miles.
