Pop and country singer LeAnn Rimes, a former teen star who recently completed a rehab stint after dealing with some personal issues, became emotional while opening up to Katie Couric on her talk show "Katie" and told her she now feels she is "starting over."

Rimes, who rose to fame with the 1997 single "How Do I Live," began a 30-day voluntary inpatient treatment program in late August, a day after her 30th birthday, to treat anxiety and stress.

Over the past few years, the singer went through a divorce, married actor Eddie Cibrian and coped with a lot criticism over their relationship. They went public with their romance, as the two were both still married when they met on the set of the Lifetime movie "Northern Lights."

"I was this big voice, this little girl that, you know, no one really knew much about," Rimes told Couric in an interview set to air on Thursday, October 25. "I couldn't really grow up even understanding who it really was that I was."

"I feel like I'm starting over even though I've had all these years behind me," she said. "How many people get to start over again, in this day and age? I had never taken a break for myself to examine myself and to just learn who I am outside of LeAnn Rimes, for 30 years."

Rimes has also been subject to criticism over her weight loss over the years. The actress has occasionally posted photos of herself in bikinis on Twitter. Her personal issues has made her a tabloid favorite.

There's been so many lies. I made my choices and I'm living with them," Rimes told Couric.

"People look at you and go why are you struggling? No one can quite understand why you hurt so badly," she said, while tearing up. "But, I'm not going to cry.

Rimes has usually kept mum about her love life but has often defended her weight loss online and in the press, including during an interview on the E! talk show "Chelsea Lately" in February.

"Why are you so much thinner than you were?" host Chelsea Handler asked.

"Well I was a baby. I mean you've known me since I was 13. I was fat. I was - I had baby fat," Rimes replied. "You know what I mean? Like, you're like, chubby and then I grew up. That's it. I mean, I work out. There's nothing else to explain."

Rimes is currently promoting her new single, "What Have I Done," which is set for release in December. The singer had told Handler at the time that she plans to get personal on her new album.

"I've pretty much been very quiet in the press about my divorce that's kept you very much entertained," she said. "And everything else that went along with it. I'm definitely going to let it all out in my artistry on the next record."
