Jogger stabbed in Rossmoor; suspect loose

ROSSMOOR, Calif.

The attack happened at about 9 p.m. Tuesday on the 3200 block of Bostonian Drive in Rossmoor. Police say the victim was attacked from behind, and suffered stab wounds to her face, arm and her hand.

Orange County sheriff's officials say the victim was able to fight the suspect off and run away for a short while, but the man caught up to her and continued his attack.

A team of detectives went door-to-door in the community, speaking to neighbors about the incident. A resident heard the victim's screams for help and chased the suspect away. Detectives say the suspect fled on a BMX or a mountain bicycle. Authorities say this was a random attack in one of the safest communities in Orange County.

Rossmoor resident Amber Beyma compared the town to "Mayberry," saying all the residents feel very safe living there.

O.C. sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said the suspect did not attempt to rob the victim or attempt to sexually assault her. He described the suspect as very angry, but said the exact motive remains unclear.

Investigators say they plan on speaking with the victim later in the day to put together a composite sketch of the suspect.
