OTRC: Joss Whedon: voting for Mitt Romney is voting for zombie apocalypse

Joss Whedon talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com at San Diego Comic-Con about the 'Buffy' reunion on July 25, 2012.

A vote for Mitt Romney is a vote for zombies?

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon has encouraged those hoping for a zombie apocalypse to vote for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, in a new campaign ad posted on YouTube.

"You know, like a lot of liberal Americans, I was excited when Barack Obama took office four years ago," Whedon said in a new YouTube video. "But it's a very different world now. And Mitt Romney is a very different candidate - one with the vision and determination to cut through business as usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse."

The video, which mimics a campaign video, shows the filmmaker in his home, doing dishes and admiring his stock of canned goods, which he compiled for the zombie apocalypse.

"Romney is ready to make the deep rollbacks in health care, education, social services, reproductive rights, that will guarantee poverty, unemployment, overpopulation, disease, rioting - all crucial elements in creating a nightmare zombie wasteland," Whedon continued. "But it's his commitment to ungovern corporate privilege that will nosedive this economy into true insolvency and chaos. The kind of chaos you can't buy back."

In 2011, Whedon donated $2,500 to President Obama's campaign and $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee. He contributed another $30,800 to the DNC in 2012.

Whedon is perhaps best known for creating the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the short lived but beloved series "Firefly." Whedon also created "Dollhouse" and "Angel." He also co-wrote and directed the popular online musical "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" in 2008.

He will also write and direct Marvel's "The Avengers 2" and develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. "The Avengers" is the biggest hit of 2012 so far. The movie has grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide at the box office and has earned $616 million domestically.
