UCLA smoking ban to go into effect April 2013

LOS ANGELES

Chancellor Gene Block said all tobacco products will be banned from campus as of April 22, 2013. The ban comes as the UC system works to eliminate tobacco-use on campuses by 2014.

Cigarettes, cigars, oral tobacco, electronic cigarettes and all other tobacco products will be prohibited on the Westwood campus and other sites owned or leased by UCLA.

The chancellor said tobacco users will have access to resources to help them quit, such as free nicotine replacement starter kits or peer counseling. Block said the ban is an effort to make UCLA "the healthiest college campus in the country."
