OTRC: 'Boy Meets World' series sequel in the works, report says

The cast of 'Boy Meets World,' including Ben Savage, Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel, Betsy Randle and Will Friedle, appear in a promotional photo.

Disney is reportedly working on a sequel to the '90's series "Boy Meets World."

According to TV Line, the Disney Channel series would tentatively be called "Girl Meets World" and would focus on the preteen daughter of the original show's main characters, Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), who got married at the end of the long-running series.

The series is in the early stages of development and the Disney Channel is reportedly working on getting Savage and Fishel to reprise their roles.

Ben Savage, younger brother of "Wonder Years" star Fred Savage, captured the hearts of viewers as the charming prankster Cory Matthews, while Fishel portrayed the over-achieving hippie Topanga. Rider Strong portrayed Cory's bad boy best friend Shawn Hunter and Will Friedle portrayed his dim-witted brother, Eric Matthews.

"Boy Meets World" ran for seven seasons, between 1993 and 2000, during which viewers watched Cory navigate through the tough years of adolescence, bringing with him worldly wisdom and amusing jokes to his tribulations and trials.

When the show went off air, Savage graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Political Science. He later appeared in TV movies such as "Car Babes" in 2006 and 'Making it Legal' in 2007. He also made guest appearances on TV shows such as "Phil of the Future," "Chuck" and "Without a Trace."

From 2006 to 2007, Fishel was a correspondent for "The Tyra Banks Show." Fishel is also known for dating former 'N Sync band member Lance Bass, who revealed he was openly gay in 2006, and for being the spokesperson for NutriSystem. From 2008 until 2011, Fishel was the host for the Style Network's pop culture show, "The Dish."
