Gov. Brown visits LA to push Prop. 30

EAST LOS ANGELES

Brown paid a visit on Saturday to InnerCity Struggle in East Los Angeles, an organization that promotes non-violence in communities on the Eastside. The governor has been advocating the passage of Proposition 30. The measure would increase taxes on the wealthy to help head off billions of dollars in public education spending cuts. Recent polls show Prop. 30 faces a tough contest and could be heading for defeat.

"California has had great schools," the governor said at the InnerCity Struggle rally. "In recent years, the support for those schools has gone down, and we can turn that around. We have a simple measure, No. 30."

Earlier in the day, the governor also attended a similar rally in South Los Angeles urging residents to vote.

Also Saturday, The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder Office in Norwalk held and an election simulation to give voters an idea of what to expect Tuesday. Officials there will be working long hours tabulating votes as ballots come in.
