The incident happened Tuesday night on the 500 block of El Camino Real. Authorities said a man in a hooded sweatshirt, wearing a scarf, walked into a smoke shop, confronted two employees, demanded money, and fired a round from a .40 caliber handgun into the counter.
The employees quickly emptied the registers, gave him the cash and he fled on foot. Investigators said the employees could have easily been injured by a ricochet or debris, but they weren't.
