Homeless man says he robbed OC bank to get shelter in jail

WESTMINSTER, Calif.

James Lannon told police, who arrested him on Tuesday, that he has been spending the cold nights on the streets and needed shelter. The 55-year-old said he also needed heart medication that he can no longer afford.

Lannon said he decided to rob the Wells Fargo bank on Westminster Boulevard. He allegedly handed a teller a note and sat down in the lobby. That's where he was waiting when police showed up and arrested him. He was not armed.

He was booked into the Orange county Jail for robbery and several outstanding arrest warrants. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
