A fire broke out next to a charter school in the 400 block of West Montana Street in Pasadena on Saturday morning, but school administrators said the school was untouched by the fire.

Heavy flames and smoke were seen pouring out of the Neighbors Acting Together Helping All building, which is next to the Opportunities for Learning charter school, at about 5 a.m.

When firefighters got to the scene, they went into defensive mode because the structural integrity of the building wasn't safe. It took them about 45 minutes to put out the fire.

The building is likely a total loss. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

School administrators said the school will be open as usual Monday.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the building as the Opportunities for Learning charter school.
