The new owner, Irma Acosta, is an employee who escaped the October 2011 massacre after she stepped out for a few minutes.
Acosta didn't want the space to become a permanent reminder of the bloodshed when 42-year-old Scott Dekraai opened fire on his ex-wife and seven others.
Instead, family, friends, and clients gathered to celebrate the rebirth of the salon and pay tribute to the lives lost.
Acosta says the entire floor plan of the salon has been redone, and some of the stylists who worked at the salon will return as part of a family.
"Today is very meaningful," said Acosta. "We wanted to dedicate the reopening to everybody that we lost that day. We couldn't have done it without the support of our clients who have stood by us."
The accused gunman has pleaded not guilty to the eight murders and is awaiting trial. Dekraai is accused of planning to murder his ex-wife, whom he was in a bitter custody battle with. He faces a possible death sentence.
The salon officially reopens for business Tuesday.
