Tustin officer shoots, hurts man armed with gun

TUSTIN, Calif.

The incident occurred at about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday in the 14400 block of Newport Avenue.

Police say they received a call of a disturbance where the suspect was armed with a handgun.

Arriving officers found a female and a juvenile male arguing with a 46-year-old armed man. The subjects were attempting to get the gun away from the suspect. Officers ordered the suspect to drop the gun. When he refused to drop the apparent weapon, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a single gunshot wound. Upon his release, he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

No officers were injured during the shooting.
