Parolee wanted for car-theft leads police on pursuit

WESTMINSTER, Calif.

The pursuit began when a Westminster police officer recognized the wanted suspect, identified as 34-year-old Tony Vu, of Midway City, driving through the intersection of Bolsa Avenue and Pagoda Street around 2:26 a.m. Monday. Vu, an alleged car thief, was wanted for a previous stolen vehicle investigation and for a probation violation.

While waiting for other officers to arrive, the police officer began to follow Vu who quickly noticed and led police on a high-speed pursuit. The suspect weaved his way through several cities and onto the 405, 605, and 91 freeways.

The pursuit continued until Vu's silver Honda Civic swerved out of control at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach. Officers then blocked Vu's path, and arrested him.

California Highway Patrol and Huntington Beach police assisted Westminster police in the pursuit of the reported car thief. A helicopter unit from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department also responded to keep observation of Vu.

Vu was booked into the Orange County jail on possession of stolen property, felony evasion, and a probation violation.
