Nicki Minaj is "scared" of watching her big debut on "American Idol" when the show returns for season 13 in January, saying she may have been less than kind towards some of the contestants.
The outspoken rapper also said she is open to the idea of performing with fellow new judge Mariah Carey, despite reports of a possible feud.
Minaj made her comments on host Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show on Monday, November 19. Minaj and Carey are two of three new judges joining the FOX singing competition series, along with country singer Keith Urban.
"I'm scared. I don't know [why]," Minaj told Seacrest on his show, when asked about her debut - which is just 58 days away. "Maybe I shouldn't have been so like ... It's hard for me to not say how I really feel. I'm having a hard time [with how honest I am sometimes]. 'Cause everyone else is so nice. I mean, I dunno."
"American Idol" has been lacking a "mean" judge since Simon Cowell left the series last year to launch a similar show, "The X Factor," which also airs on FOX. Randy Jackson remains the sole original member of the judges' panel, following the departure of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who ended a two-year stint in May.
"I was just thinking back about some things, and I was like, 'I wonder if that was not nice,'" Minaj said. "It's just weird for me because I feel like as an artist, I've always grown more from the tougher criticism and so I would like to be that person and to try to help give people that thick skin and really give it their all. It is a competition."
"I don't think I'm gonna be able to watch it because I'm probably gonna be like so nervous but I know people are gonna love it," she added.
In October, a leaked video from one of the "American Idol" auditions that was filmed earlier this summer showed Minaj hurling expletives at Carey, sparking rumors about a possible feud. Minaj made no mention of such a thing in her interview with Seacrest and even hinted at the opposite.
"I think it's a great dynamic," she said. "I think just the chemistry of the judges, I feel it while I'm there. I think it's like really different from anything we've seen before on 'Idol' and people are gonna like it a lot."
She added she was even open to the possibility of performing with Carey on the show, saying: "If she'll have me, I'll be there, waiting."
