OTRC: Josh Peck talks 'Red Dawn' reboot, becoming an 'action star' (Video)

Josh Peck is making his action debut in the big screen reboot "Red Dawn," calling the film, a remake of a 1984 classic, a "blast of nostalgia."

However, the 26-year-old actor, formerly known for his role in the Nickelodeon comedy series "Drake & Josh," is still hesitant to dub himself an "action star."

"Action star? I don't know, man," Peck told OTRC.com in a recent satellite interview. "I mean, when I think action star I think of the cast of 'The Expendables,' so if I can in any way be associated with those guys, then I'm in pretty great company, especially Dolph Lundgren."

Peck takes over Charlie Sheen's iconic role as Matt Eckert in the action film. The 1984 version was set during the Cold War and depicted a group of teenagers in the American midwest who try to save their town from invading troops from the Soviet Union. In the remake, the group battles North Korean fighters.

The new film also features "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth, Adrianne Palicki, "Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson, Brett Cullen, Isabel Lucas, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Connor Cruise.

"I think in many ways if you love the original film, you'll be blasted with nostalgia watching the new movie," Peck said. "I, like you, wasn't very familiar with the first film, so I think if you really want an exciting, action film that doesn't have a lot of CGI or 3D - it just has visceral, exciting action sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat - this is a movie for you. Once you've OD'd on stuffing and family, grab some popcorn and go see this movie -- it'll be a nice relief."

Peck went on to explain how while the reboot definitely pays homage to the classic 1980s film, it also offers a modern and realistic touch of today's society.

"Well, I think you are right in that the original film did play in a time where the political climate was so tight, and it was a constant issue on people's minds every day," Peck said.

"I think the new film plays on the idea of, 'What if the fight was brought to your front door and you were forced to face extraordinary circumstances that you never thought possible,' be it something as insane as an invasion, to something that's very possible like a natural disaster," he said. "I think everyone would have a visceral reaction to the idea of protecting their home or their family."

Peck made his on-screen debut at age 14 in the 2000 film "The Newcomers," which stars Kate Bosworth. He later appeared in "The Amanda Show," Amanda Bynes' Nickelodeon series that aired between 1999 and 2002. Peck began playing Josh Nichols on "Drake & Josh" in 2004. The series lasted for four seasons.

Peck is also known for his role as Eddie in the "Ice Age" movies. In more recent years, the actor has matured into serious roles. He starred alongside Ben Kingsley as a teenager who trades marijuana for psychotherapy services in the 2007 film "The Wackness." He also appeared with Tate Donovan in the 2009 drama movie "Wild About Harry."

Peck is set to appear in the 2013 film "Battle of the Year: The Dream Team," where he'll be showcasing his dancing skills alongside co-stars Josh Holloway and Chris Brown. The actor is also set to appear in the 2013 western drama film "The Timber" alongside James Ransone and David Bailie.
