OTRC: Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson's father, 84, suffers stroke, says he's fine

Joe Jackson, the 84-year-old father of late pop star Michael Jackson, has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke, but says he will be fine.

The family patriarch told ABC News on Thursday, November 29 that he is was treated at a medical center in Las Vegas and is expected to go home on Friday. Joe has diabetes and had also survived a stroke in 1998.

He is known for his past role as manager of the Jackson 5, the group that made Michael an international a child star. He had a strained relationship with the King of Pop, who said in interviews that his dad physically abused him.

He was estranged from his 82-year-old wife and Michael's mother, Katherine, when the singer died at age 50 in June 2009. The two did, however, both attend the 2011 involuntary manslaughter trial of Conrad Murray, the doctor found guilty of causing Michael's death via an accidental overdose of propofol and other medications.

After Michael's death, Joe had tried to obtain a stipend from his estate, which names Katherine and the singer's three children as the beneficiaries and was three years ago valued to be worth about $400 million. He was denied.
